A long enhancement list does not automatically create a useful optimization roadmap. Start with where work is slow, unclear, repetitive, or unreliable.
Observe the work
Talk with the people performing high-volume transactions and month-end activities. Review workarounds, spreadsheets, manual reconciliations, repeated corrections, and support tickets.
Connect friction to business impact
Classify each issue by time, error risk, customer impact, control weakness, reporting delay, cash effect, or scalability constraint.
Fix root causes
A request for another report may actually indicate poor master data. A request for automation may reveal unclear approvals. A recurring integration error may need ownership and monitoring rather than another script.
Prioritize a balanced backlog
Combine quick wins with foundational work. Some improvements should reduce daily effort immediately; others should strengthen architecture, controls, and data for the next stage of growth.
